Preguntas frecuentes
What does it do?
We are not going to tell you that, and we would rather explain why than dodge the question.
Making a health claim about a beverage requires evidence at a standard this category does not currently meet, and a great deal of what you will read online is written by people who have decided not to worry about that.
What we will tell you is what it is. Water with deuterium reduced from around 150 parts per million to 25, independently verified batch by batch.
Is it just water?
Yes. Water with less deuterium in it, plus a small quantity of electrolytes, and nothing else changed. It is sold and regulated as a food.
As with any change to what you eat or drink, if you are pregnant, nursing or under medical supervision, please speak with your doctor first.
What is deuterium?
Hydrogen carrying an extra neutron. It is stable, not radioactive, and it occurs naturally in all water on earth.
Standard ocean water sits near 155 parts per million. Most tap water falls between 130 and 155, varying with latitude and altitude. Yavelle is 25.
Does Deuterium Depleted Water (DDW) taste bad?
No, quite the opposite. Most people describe it as clean and slightly soft, largely indistinguishable from a good quality mineral water. A fair number notice nothing at all, and we would rather tell you that than have you feel you are missing something.
How much should I drink?
That is up to you. It is a beverage, not a protocol, and there is no amount you are meant to reach. Most people drink it alongside their normal water rather than instead of it.
If you want to see what a mix works out to, our intake calculator does the arithmetic.
Can I heat, boil or freeze it?
Yes. Heating, boiling and freezing do not meaningfully change the deuterium level. What does change the concentration is mixing or diluting it with other liquids.
Are there side effects?
Yavelle is purified water with reduced deuterium, so there is nothing in it that would ordinarily cause a problem. If you have concerns, or if you are managing a health condition, please consult a qualified medical professional before making changes to your diet.
Any precautions I should know about?
If you are pregnant, nursing, or have an illness or medical condition, consult your doctor before making significant dietary changes.
Why is DDW more expensive than regular water?
Lowering deuterium levels is not something standard filtration can achieve. Basic filtration, reverse osmosis and typical distillation are not designed to selectively reduce deuterium in any meaningful way.
Producing DDW requires specialised, industrial scale equipment and significant energy input. It is made using low temperature vacuum rectification, a method that separates water molecules based on subtle differences in physical properties.
That requires purpose built infrastructure, including very large separation columns, which is why DDW is a premium product.
Can I produce DDW at home?
Not really. There are many videos and posts claiming it is possible, but the most that home methods achieve is a change of one or two per cent in deuterium level.
Yavelle contains roughly 80 per cent less deuterium than normal drinking water. The difference is not close.
Where is your water produced?
We source our water in the USA, where it undergoes independent laboratory testing for purity and deuterium content. Our latest certificate of analysis is published on the site.
How does Yavelle compare to other brands?
Some are higher, some advertise lower. What matters more than the number is whether a brand publishes a batch certificate naming the laboratory, the method used, and a stated uncertainty range.
Ours is on the site. We would encourage you to ask any brand in this category for theirs and see what comes back.
Can I get my own deuterium level measured?
Not easily. The methods exist, isotope ratio mass spectrometry being the reference one, but they live in laboratories rather than clinics.
The larger problem is that there are no established clinical reference ranges, so even if you got a number back there is no validated chart telling you what it means. We do not sell a test, and we could.
What does the research say?
There is a published research literature on deuterium depletion going back decades, largely from Hungarian and Romanian research groups. A 2024 scoping review in Metabolomics is a reasonable place to start.
It is early. The human trials are small, and there is a serious sceptical case arguing the marketing in this category has run well ahead of the evidence.
Where are you based?
Yavelle is an Australian founded company with stock held in Australia and the USA for fast local fulfilment in both markets.
What is your shipping policy?
Shipping is free in Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Local shipping times will vary, so please see our shipping page.
Do you offer subscription plans?
Yes. Many people incorporate DDW into their long term daily hydration routine, and subscriptions are discounted against one off orders. You can pause or cancel from your account at any time without contacting us.
